We are proud and happy to call Dunwoody our home. Our city is located just north of Interstate 285 and east of Georgia 400 and it is one of Atlanta’s most popular suburbs. Dunwoody officially became a city in 2008 and currently it's a home to 47,000 people. Despite its proximity to Atlanta, the close-knit community can often make you feel as if you are living in a small town.
Dunwoody's biggest shopping attraction is Perimeter Mall. The area is also full of numerous shopping centers and retail stores. People come from all over Atlanta to experience Dunwoody's top restaurants like, Seasons 52, Joey D's Oak Room and Lagrotta. Dunwoody Country Club is a great spot for golf and tennis enthusiasts.
Dunwoody’s elementary schools, Austin Elementary and Vanderlyn Elementary, are considered to be some of Georgia’s best public schools. Other schools in the area include Chestnut Charter Elementary, Kingsley Elementary, and Dunwoody Elementary. Middle school students will attend Peachtree Charter Middle, while older students will attend Dunwoody High School which has excellent fine arts and athletic programs. All public schools are part of the DeKalb County School System. Private schools in the city include Atlanta Country Day School and Atlanta North School. Despite its proximity to Atlanta, Dunwoody is part of Dekalb County and that allows its residents to enjoy lower property taxes. Dunwoody begun to experienced large growth in 1960 and 1970s and many of the homes are from that era. Today there is also a great deal of newer construction from the 2000s as well. Many of the homes are two-story traditional styles, and families love the fact that they sit on lots that are half an acre or larger. The average home in Dunwoody costs between $300,000 and $400,000.
