Atlanta May Events 2016

Single Day Events:

May. 5: Socialize and celebrate with beer, margaritas, and barbecue at the Cinco de Mayo Party at Smoke Ring.

May 7: Taste of East Point and the South Metro Area has artists, live music, food trucks, restaurants, beer, and margaritas in downtown East Point. Free

May 7: Dress up for Derby Day, which has a live broadcast of the Kentucky Derby, food, beverages, live music, an auction, and games at Chastain Horse Park.

May 7: See inspiring gardens and parks maintained by Master Gardener volunteers at Through the Garden Gate in Marietta.

May 8: Mothers get free admission with anyone who pays during Mother’s Day at Zoo Atlanta.

May 8: Enjoy a Mother’s Day Brunch buffet indoors or outside on the patio, which includes a pint-sized kids’ buffet plus games and activities at Villa Christina.

May 13:The free Decatur Lantern Parade lights the night and fills the air with music. You can pay to register for a lantern-making workshop.

May 14: A Firefly Run ticket gets you a T-shirt, a 5K run/walk, 2 glowing LED bands, and after party with costume contest at Piedmont Park

May 14: Taste of Town Brookhaven includes samples from a dozen restaurants, beer and wine for sale, music, and cooking demonstrations on the green.

May 14: Good Neighbor Day Airshow and Open House features airplanes up close and in the air, aerobatics, vendors, and rides for sale at DeKalb Peachtree Airport. Free except parking.
May 14: Food That Rocks features samples from 20 local restaurants, 3 local bands, and a tent with wine, beer, and cocktail tastes at Hammond Park for $55, age 21+.

May 14: The Sweet Spot is a high-energy celebration of the sexy arts that includes spoken word, burlesque dance, body painting, comedy, fashion, and DJ music at 595 North Event Center for age 21+

May 14: Mableton Day features local entertainers, arts and crafts, vendors, a car show, a kids’ corner, and a 5K at Mable House Amphitheatre.

May 14: The Atlanta Motoring Festival and Concours d’Elegance, a new event that includes live jazz, wine tasting, and children’s activities at Chukkar Farm in Alpharetta.

May 14: Atlanta Ultimate Women’s Expo features keynote speakers, shopping, classes, and a beauty lounge at Georgia World Congress Center.

May 15: Atlanta British Motorcar Day.

May 15: Sips Under the Sea.

May 21: Paint Wars includes a T-shirt to wear and three sponge balls covered in food dye to toss, plus a dance party and optional fitness challenge at Turner Field.

May 21: Beer, Bourbon, and BBQ Festival at Atlantic Station.

May 21: East Atlanta Beer Fest in Brownwood Park.

May 21: Spring Into Summer features family activities, wellness exhibitors, and a 3K glow-in-the-dark walk/run

May 22: Mommy and Me Princess Tea is a benefit with tea, lemonade, treats, and a show at The Carter Center.

May 28: Atlanta Caribbean Carnival celebrates Caribbean culture, cuisine, and costumes with its noon parade to festival village at Fourth Ward Park.

May 28: Brew at the Zoo is a fundraiser that features beer and wine tasting, food for sale, live music, and animal encounters at Zoo Atlanta for age 21+.

Multiple Day Events:

May 1-8: Oliver! is a Tony Award winning musical about an orphan, based on the book Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. This fresh version is set in a modern world with a female lead at 7 Stages.

May 1-15: The Light in the Piazza is a breezy musical about young love in picturesque Italy at Theatrical Outfit.

May 1-15: The BeBe Winans Story tells how BeBe and brother CeCe rose from Detroit to national fame and features their songs at Alliance Theatre.

May 1-15: Based on a true story, Me and Jezebel is a comedy about a New England homeowner trying to please the irascible queen of Hollywood while New York hotels are on strike, at Art Station in Stone Mountain.

May 1-22: Kids and their parents will enjoy the fun and funky Beauty and the Beast set in a modern city at the Center for Puppetry Arts.

May 1-June 5: See knights and maidens, dine on turkey legs and ale, shop from 150 artisans, visit a medieval amusement park, and be entertained at the Georgia Renaissance Festival weekends and Memorial Day in Fairburn.

Mat 6-7: Pick’n in Grant Park has a BBQ contest (no samples), kids’ zone, street vendors, and live music ranging from rock to bluegrass in beautiful Grant Park. No pets.

May 6-8: Sweet Auburn Springfest offers family fun, food, and entertainment on Auburn Avenue & John Wesley Dobbs Avenue

May 6-8: The Georgia Mineral Society’s Gem, Mineral, Jewelry, and Fossil Show is Mother’s Day weekend at Cobb Civic Center in Marietta.

My 6-14: Based on the film “Some Like it Hot” starring Marilyn Monroe, Sugar is a zany comedy about two male musicians who have to dress like women to evade gangsters, in Marietta.

May 6 & 27: Watch the Atlanta Braves play a home game at Turner Field followed by a fireworks show April 22, May 6 & 27, June 24, and July 1.

May 7-8: See 10 spectacular private gardens around Atlanta on Mother’s Day weekend at Gardens for Connoisseurs Tour.

May 7-8: See the best roses in 65 categories at Atlanta Rose Show in the Day Hall at the Atlanta Botanical Garden.

May 7-8: See the work of 185 artists, hear local acoustic musicians, and visit food vendors at Chastain Park Arts Festival at Chastain Park. Repeats in Nov. Free.

May 7-8: Dunwoody Art Festival features 140 artists’ booths, a food court, kids’ zone, and live music. Free.

May 7-15: Atlanta Opera presents Romeo and Juliet, the classic love story of two star-crossed lovers, in French with English subtitles at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.

May 14-15: Kirkwood Spring Fling & Tour of Homes.

May 20-22: Shaky Beats is a new event with 40 bands on three stages, bars, a food court, and an art market in Centennial Olympic Park for age 18+

May 21-22: Historic Grant Park Tour of Homes.

May 21-22: Dahlonega Arts & Wine Festival (formerly Mountain Flower Art Festival) features handmade art, a wine garden, and live music in Dahlonega.

May 21-30: Yaarab Shrine Circus in Jim R. Miller Park.

May 26-29: MomoCon is an animation, anime, comic, and gaming convention at Georgia World Congress Center.

May 26-30: Game-o-Rama features board-game tournaments, panels on game design and player strategy, and a flea market of games at Atlanta Marriott Perimeter Center.

May 27-29: Atlanta Jazz Festival features local and national jazz greats on two stages, a youth jazz-band competition, arts and crafts, food vendors, and a kids’ zone in Piedmont Park.

May 27-29: TimeGate at Marriott Century Center.

May 27-29: Memorial Day Weekend Festival at Callaway Gardens.

May 27-30: Salute The Troops includes live music, a patriotic laser show, and fireworks at Stone Mountain Park.

May 28-29: Decatur Arts Festival has an art walk Friday evening and an artists’ market with live music Saturday and Sunday at Agnes Scott College in Decatur.

May 28-30: Alpharetta Arts Streetfest offers art, live jazz and acoustical music, cultural arts performances, children’s activities, and food booths. Free.

May 31-June 12 Design is Human celebrates design excellence and contemporary architecture with home tours, exhibits, lectures, and activities.
